In all fairness, it was likely that SOMEone was going to wind up being the catalyst, and that kind of transition is almost never a pretty situation. He and his girlfriend both lucked out that it was someone as understanding as the author. And I am forever grateful to the “other women” who stuck around while I flailed through my opening-up transitions.
