This brand-new hiking trail in West Virginia will connect 29 breathtaking waterfalls located all throughout the state.

This summer, West Virginia is attempting to entice tourists to visit the state by opening a new Waterfall Trail that will link over two dozen waterfall cascades. According to the West Virginia Department of Tourism, the route traverses the whole of the state and has a octordle total of 29 waterfalls, ranging from well-known attractions to hidden treasures that are less well recognized. There are more than 200 waterfalls in West Virginia, and the ones you'll see along the path are only some of them.

"We invite all travelers to put the West Virginia Waterfall Trail on their must-see list this summer and beyond," West Virginia tourism secretary Chelsea Ruby said in a statement that was released to Travel + Leisure. "We invite all travelers to put the West Virginia Waterfall Trail on their must-see list." "We aim to reward your travels with special gifts that make you ready to explore Almost Heaven again, whether you reunite with your favorite falls or uncover hidden jewels," says the website. "Whether you reconnect with your favorite falls or find hidden gems."

According to the department of tourism, Blackwater Falls is one of the attractions that can be found along the trail. The name of the waterfall comes from the "distinct amber color of its waters, dyed by the tannic acid of fallen hemlock and red spruce needles," which gives the waterfall its distinctive appearance. The Sandstone Falls are a series of waterfalls that sit at a width of more than 460 meters (1,500 feet) and are separated by a collection of little islands. These falls may be found along this path.

In addition, the route passes through a number of waterfalls that are not easily accessible, such as Finn's Falls, which can be seen at New River Gorge National Park, which was just established as a national park in the beginning of 2021. In addition to more than 1,500 climbing routes and a 12.8-mile network of mountain bike trails, this park has 53 miles of whitewater that is completely unrestricted by dams or other structures.

Travelers may also sign up for the Waterfall Trail Passport on their smartphones, and they can "stamp" their passports by checking in at each waterfall spot to complete the adventure. According to the department of tourism, travelers who check in at three or more waterfalls will receive a custom sticker, those who check in at 10 or more waterfalls will receive an aluminum water bottle, and vacationers who check in at 20 or more waterfalls will receive a waterfall wanderer T-shirt.

"The data tells us that travel tastes have evolved in favor of areas that provide great outdoor recreation," continued Ruby. "This suggests that West Virginia is a destination of choice." "Because our 1.5 million acres of parks and public areas are filled to the brim with breathtaking waterfalls, hikers who are looking for an exciting new experience this summer should definitely consider following this path."
