I want to add something to the list. Be real careful to not reject the genuinely nice guy that does not necessarily have the slick profile. The players are real clued in to this sort of advice. And guess what? They write their profile to cover all these bases that Moxie brings up in her piece. If a thing is too perfect, it probably is too perfect. Some of these guys are so good, they will have a built in imperfection to pass muster. I guess, in the end, one still has to use common sense and good judgement. This list is not a panacea for the woes of online dating.
I reccomend that people make a list of non-negotiables, difficult negotiables and soft negotiables. Also make a list of priorites, be they material or non-material. And be honest with yourself. If money is a priority, list it. If prestige job is a priority, list it. Any type of physical looks is a priority, list it. Age range is a priority, list it. One should then revist these lists every week and revise. It’s a really good way of dealing with our own shortcomings and crazy expectations.

Wow, that list covers it pretty well. I really enjoyed online dating (at age 39), but I might have been a pretty unique case. I had virtually no expectations that I would meet anyone decent, let alone someone suitable for a relationship, and I was in a weirdly (for me) emotionally unavailable state for at least part of that time. That made lots of fruitless first and second dates just fine with me! I also have a finely tuned bullshit meter, so I didn’t fall for any of the flirty sweet-talk. Bearing all that in mind, I don’t really know if I should advise online dating for any other woman my age!
